Solar Resources

Powering Your Life with the Sun

At Snapping Shoals EMC, we are committed to providing you with reliable, affordable, and increasingly sustainable energy options. Whether you want to participate in community solar without installing panels on your roof or generate your own electricity right at home, we have resources and programs to help you harness the power of the sun.

Cooperative Solar: Community Power, Personal Credit

Our Cooperative Solar program is the perfect way to support and benefit from solar energy without the hassles of installation, maintenance, or long-term contracts. It’s ideal for renters, those with shaded roofs, or members in communities with HOA restrictions.

How It Works:

  • Low Barrier to Entry: Purchase blocks of solar output from our 2.7 AC megawatt local solar facility.
  • Simple Pricing: Each 1-kilowatt block is available for $20.00 per month.
  • Bill Credits: The kilowatt-hours produced by your purchased block(s)—estimated between 135 and 195 kWh monthly—are calculated and credited directly to your monthly electric bill.

Program Details:

  • Commitment: No upfront costs, no long-term lease, and no maintenance. You can discontinue at any time by notifying us.
  • Availability: Residential Snapping Shoals EMC members only.
  • Limit: Maximum of four (4) blocks per member.

Rooftop Solar: Generating Power at Home

If you are considering installing a solar photovoltaic (PV) system on your home, Snapping Shoals EMC is here to help you safely and reliably interconnect with the electric grid. We accommodate residential solar installations up to 10 kilowatts (kW) in accordance with the Georgia Distributed Generation Act of 2001.

Your Step-by-Step Checklist:

  1. Assess Your Site:
    • Does your roof have unobstructed access to sunlight throughout the day, year-round?
    • Is your roof size and orientation suitable for the system size you need?
    • Are there any restrictions from your community or homeowners' association (HOA)?

  2. Contact SSEMC (Before Installation):
    • This is essential. You must call us at 770-786-3484 to initiate the necessary interconnection agreement and process. This ensures your system is safely and reliably connected to our distribution grid.

  3. Hire a Qualified Contractor:
    • Meet with a qualified solar contractor who can provide a detailed assessment for your specific situation. They will help you select the right system and navigate the installation process.

Our Commitment to Utility-Scale Solar

Your cooperative is investing in large-scale renewable energy projects to serve the entire membership:

  • Green Power EMC Partnership: We are a long-standing partner with Green Power EMC, the state's renewable energy supplier, to procure clean energy from diverse sources.

  • Major Projects: We share in the output of significant solar farms, including the 106-megawatt (MWAC) Clay Solar Project, and are supporting the development of local facilities, such as the new 40 MW solar facility at Jolley Farm.

Through these investments and partnerships, SSEMC is building a more sustainable and diverse energy portfolio for the future of our community.
