Thank you for your interest in our latest project. Snapping Shoals EMC and Green Power EMC are evaluating the development of a 40MW solar facility to serve our members and the surrounding area. As not-for-profit cooperatives, both Snapping Shoals EMC and Green Power EMC are interested in pursuing this project to continue providing cost-effective, reliable and clean energy to our members.

The electricity generated by this new facility is estimated to produce enough energy to power more than 6,500 homes, and will be clean, renewable, and utilized locally. The project upholds our mission to provide quality electric services at affordable rates and serve as our member-owners' trusted energy partner, while engaging and enhancing the diverse communities we serve.

The Project

The Jolley Solar Facility will be a ground-mounted solar energy facility that will help serve the increasing demand for power in our community. The proposed facility will be located off Magnet Road with only 139 of the 332 acres available to be used for the solar array. With additional foliage planted between the solar energy facility and the road, this project will provide sustainable energy while maintaining the beauty of the landscape.

Wildlife friendly fencing and access corridors will be incorporated to maintain access to wetlands and native wildlife. The property will be pre-seeded with native grasses between clearing and construction. Where possible, existing vegetative buffers will be maintained, and additional vegetative visual screening will be utilized to minimize views from the road and adjacent properties.

Located within Snapping Shoals EMC’s territory, the new solar facility will help support local electric needs and produce enough clean energy to power more than 6,500 homes.

The property on Magnet Road, known as Jolley Farm, is private land. Previous development plans for residential housing were unpopular in the community due to overcrowding concerns. In contrast, the Jolley Solar Facility would not add homes to or increase traffic in the area.

Silicon (for the solar cells), glass, aluminum (for the frame), and polymers (for encapsulation and backsheets), along with metals like copper and silver for electrical connections.

Monocrystalline solar panels use materials that are generally considered safe and most people interact with the material on a daily basis.

There are no confirmed health impacts from solar panels at levels encountered by the public. Unlike fossil fuel energy sources, solar panels do not produce emissions. In fact, solar panels produce a lower electromagnetic field exposure than most household appliances, such as TVs and refrigerators.

Once operational, our projects do not generate any noise that can be heard outside of the facility fencing. As an industry standard practice, regular background sound surveys are conducted on proposed sites before the implementation stage begins. This helps assess existing sound conditions and predict potential changes post-installation so mitigation measures can be planned ahead.

A photovoltaic (PV) panel has an expected life cycle of 30 years. The panel maintains approximately 85% of its original capacity through its life cycle, and 90 to 95 percent of a PV solar panel is recyclable when it is decommissioned.

The EMCs responsible for this project are committed to the local community and rural Georgia. At the end of useful life, the project may be repowered to continue providing a local source of clean energy. If not repowered, all of the equipment and material will be removed to allow for future use of the property.

A recent study showed that solar farms, when screened appropriately, have no negative impact on surrounding property values. More impactful factors to property values are the quality of schools and the local economy. Solar developments contribute positively to both through temporary construction jobs and long-term tax revenue.
